Call for entries

Panama City, Florida, is preparing for its Centennial Celebration in 2009, and to promote the event we're publishing "City Limits," a literary anthology. One edition will appear each year, making for a trilogy of collectible books showcasing the best fiction, poetry, memoirs, art and photography produced by, for, and about the Emerald Coast city.

Works, whether fact or fancy set in the past, present or future, should reference the environment, society, history or other hallmarks unique to this area -- from Civil War skirmishes to World War II pilot training, from turn-of-the-last-century lumber mills to today's tourism economy, from life on the water, to life in the woods, to life on the streets of the city.

The anthology will accept short fiction (up to 2,000 words), poetry (up to three poems per entry, no more than 2,000 words total), personal memoirs (up to 2,000 words), black-and-white line art, and black-and-white photography.
All entries should come with a self-addressed, stamped return/reply envelope, and submit a $10 entry fee (make checks payable to Midsummer Press). Include an e-mail address for quick notification or in case we need to request more information (those chosen for the anthology will be asked to submit a short biographical sketch).

Those who have works chosen to appear in the collection will receive one free copy of the anthology upon publication -- and become a part of Panama City's literary history.

The collection will also feature information about the Panama City Centennial Committee, a calendar of Centennial events as they are scheduled, and information on how to volunteer or otherwise participate in the celebration. In addition, look for a profile of the cover artist written by volume editor Tony Simmons.
